Ascent Trip ReportDuring a sunny (then back to snowy) break in the Seattle snowpocolypse event of Feb 2019!
Sean left for Mt Baker to teach an AIARE level 1 field trip. Office let us out early Friday, slow 5 mile per hour traffic all the way home with heavy snow falling. Stopped for gas in the rental car as my Subaru is at the dealer due to recall...what timing! Dig out the car Sat around noon where I parked at the bottom of our hill in the DHP parking lot then visited David’s yard and his dock. At least all the snow days are allowing time to work on my navigation class stuff.
Sunday awoke to beautiful sun! With no one else available and my rental car I figured play it safer and head to Mt Si...plus I could practice with Gaia. Created a test track, got ready and packed my backpack...including my boots to make it easier to carry down the hill with Ava on leash. Glad I only had minimal car clearing after spending a lot of time yesterday. Roads were fine to the highway and on I90 ... until I decided to clean my windshield and found out the driver side fluid wasn’t working... stupid rental car. Now with a smeared windshield combined with the sun it wasn’t an awesome drive but it was manageable. Exited at 31 and pulled into the gas station to clear all ice possible ands see if I could check the hose. Couldn’t get to the hose but hopefully with ice removed that would fix it. Headed to the TH and found a snowy parking lot almost half full. Snow from the car! Finally feels a bit more like winter.
Trail was a little slick in the beginning but no spikes or pole needed though I saw others employing them. Beautiful sun for about half up then some clouds filled in. Not very windy but very cold ... saw mostly only folks with pups ;-) everyone has been feeling a bit stir crazy... at the boulder field base the very dark snow heavy clouds were coming our way.
Gaia worked well and good practice although Ava was less than impressed with my frequent stopping and futzing. Snowing lightly by the time at the car. Luckily the windshield fluid now worked in both driver and passenger side. Stopped at David’s when home as he shared some below freezing fluid to help me out. I owe you! Snowing heavily again I parked at the park. Guessing sean’s drive home from Baker is gonna be slow...
