Ascent Trip Report

Seeing others hiked from the west I decided to hike from the east. No issues with the road to reach the TH, on the main dirt road it was easy 60+ mph, the short dirt trail was very good. I hiked west following the Desert Experimental Range fence line which provide a direct route toward the prominent saddle just north of the peak. Unfortunately the topo grid lines do not show just how many feet of elevation loss and re-gain is required as one goes over smaller ridges.

There was still substantial snow on all of the shaded ground, but it was easy enough to work over to the southern side of ridges to hike is a little snow as possible. Great views of the Great Basin Nation Park mountains as well as snow capped mountains further to the north.

My descent followed a more prominent ridge that, upon the ascent, looked like it would not have so much elevation loss and re-gain. Ultimately if I returned I would still follow the fence line as the return route was not significantly better.
