Ascent Trip ReportI believed this to be the second candidate HP of the state park that Covill gave as a candidate point but I actually overshot that point and bagged this instead! With out snow shoes, this bushwhack route put me in 12 to 16 inch deep snow post-holing See GPS track. I did not realize until too late that I ended up thus, peakbagging a new more prominent point inside the national forest outside of the state park boundary. I ended up following an obvious elk herd trail and must have hiked over 20 or more places where the elk had bedded down in the snow. The hoof prints where huge!
Of the three summits, Carpenter has by far the best views. This peak has solitude and twas in the middle of an oak thicket. I was able to slide around the thicket into an open snow area and avoid harming the thicket for most of the route. The final HP is unfortunately in the thicket and requires a careful meander through tiny Gamble oak trees. There was no evidence that peakbaggers ever nab this small sub-peak |
