Ascent Trip ReportThe biggest problem on this trip was that they closed the road due to a light, late season snowfall. So I ended up sitting around at a roadblock from 7 to 11 am when they finally opened the road. There was about 6" of fresh snow at the parking lot and about 18" at the summit, and it was snowing fairly heavily on the upper mountain. About 2/3 of the route was on older snow, but it's a popular enough peak that there was never any doubt about where the trail went. It's all a good trail, solid Class 1. Started up about 11:40, summited by 1:10, about the same amount of time for the descent. It's a pleasant hike through a subalpine forest of Shasta red fir and whitebark pine, and there are some other pleasant walks in the area that I did while waiting for the road to open. Saw maybe a dozen people.
