Ascent Trip Report

It was sort of a spontaneous thing, we were driving down the road and saw this cool peak and I looked up the description on my phone. With a bit more planning, could have also done Ten Ewe Peak. Approach drive, rated "HC4WD", posed no problems for the Astro van. Sunset was well on and camped about a mile downcanyon from the trailhead. Summit day was an excellent day for a climb. Started up about an hour before dawn, cool, clear. From trailhead to summit was 1.5 hrs at an easygoing pace - trail very clear and easy to follow, could have done it by headlamp. Explored summit area for a couple of hours (traverse to Ten Ewe from there is nontechnical). Very impressed, there's a lot of climbing in the Kofas on a nice firm rhyolite/ignimbrite similar to Smith Rock or Hueco Tanks, and a gorgeous isolated area.
