Ascent Trip Report

Directions: Exit Interstate 80 at Wadsworth and head north on SR 447 towards Gerlach. Continue Northwest through Gerlach and eventually 447 starts a winding climb up to a pass then descends where you will see the Warner Range off to the west. Just passed Milemarker 106 there will be a corral off the south side of the hwy and nearby a right turn onto a dirt road will be the access road to Fox Mountain. After the turn you immediately cross a cattle guard, the road is smooth enough in dry conditions for a low clearance vehicle for about 2.5 miles then you will have to cross a small stream (1st of 5 crossings). In about 4 miles a high voltage powerline crosses the road. The road is high clearance 2wd(4wd when wet or snowcovered) and is a total of 11.5 miles from Hwy 447 to summit. The summit has a telecommunications tower. I was unable to find a registry or benchmark due to snowcover (1-3 foot drifts above 7000ft). This area is wide open sagebrush covered buttes with deer, antelope and wild horses. Rated ascent quality a 3 due to distance and snowcover. Normal conditions would rate a 1.
