Ascent Trip ReportI wasn't happy with the fact that this mountain kicked my ass back in January and I didn't even make it to the summit, so 3 months later I made it back to redeem myself! With my cardio being a little more up to snuff than it was before and that I didn't have to break a trail through the snow, the climb was much easier and pretty enjoyable. The first half mile or so involves some uphill climbing. Then the next roughly mile and a half is considerably easier in my opinion. You're still moving up in elevation, but it's much more gradual. That leaves a mile left to go to reach the summit and that's where I really got my workout in. After going past the cement foundations of the old observers cabin about a quarter of a mile to the tower, the trail is pretty steep and needed a little bit of fancy footwork to get over a couple of the rocks on it. Had a nice view from the top and the tower was open, but I can't wait until all the trees have their leaves back and the views are more green. There was no snow left at all, something I had been wondering about, and the weather was great. Trail was muddy in a few places, but I wouldn't expect anything less for it being mud season. |
