Ascent Trip ReportWhat a memorable day for sure! Maryellen, Alison, and I broke trail all day. The 1.5 mile road and 1.6 miles up took us 4 hours. It was -13 degreed at the car. The cold was the least of our problems for the day. It was exhausting breaking trail all day and making sure we were on track. We got off trail for about 15 minutes, but retraced our steps and go back on track. Beautiful sunny day with blue skies. The tower is not in good shape. Much of the fencing on the top half is missing. Only two hours to come down, several falls in the deep snow since we were so tired. Had a note from Dave the DEC ranger at the register to call him. Apparently the entire 8 mile road in is actually closed in the winter so he rec'd reports of my vehicle and needed to give me a parking ticket. Turns out my care was actually completely stuck on the access road and we tried for an hour to push it out. I had no energy or strength left, but thankfully some young snowmobilers came by and pushed my car out. We then headed into Northville to meet the ranger and get my ticket. Alison lost her sunglasses and Maryellen lost a piece of her pole, so all in all it was an expensive long day. 13 hours for a 6 mile hike. Making Memories!!
