Ascent Trip Report

This highpoint is not actually located on an island. There is a land bridge extending out into Elephant Butte Reservoir and it is possible to drive all the way to the base of this highpoint, so it is not really completely surrounded by water. It is unnamed, so the name given here is unofficial. I have to admit I thought I was climbing Elephant Butte, but I discovered later that highpoint is located to the south. It was a short distance for my wife, Geri, and I to climb. It only took 5 minutes to ascend and 5 minutes to descend. The view from the summit is worth the little time needed to make the climb.
