Ascent of Laurel Mountain on 2018-12-27
|Date:||Thursday, December 27, 2018|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||3589 ft / 1093 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis was a trip including Clatsop, Columbia, Washington, Polk, Lincoln, Coos, Curry, and Benton counties.
Followed printed directions from previous reports, having also received permission via the contact provided in earlier reports.
Saw not a soul on the roads the entire time on this stretch of wilderness. Although it was foggy and rainy, occasionally the clouds parted to fantastic views.
Parked at locked gate .7 miles below the summit and cycled up. A light layer of snow was on the ground starting almost exactly at the gate. Fresh tire tracks indicated someone was up at the installation recently. (An email to the FAA contact revealed that in fact they do have living quarters and an office up there; in fact, the contact told me that I was caught on camera by the person staffing the property, so they do keep an eye on it.)
Cycled back down to the pickup. I was grateful for 4x4 as the roads can be rugged in some spots, and it helped through some snowy patches.
