Ascent Trip ReportStarted out from NYS Route 86 in Ray Brook. The trail is relatively flat until the junction with McKenzie Mountain. Just past the junction is the dam on Little Ray Brook. We had the head downstream to find a safe place to cross, as the water was quite high and very chilly. After crossing the brook, the trail begins a very steady ascent. The summit is mostly wooded, but opens to offer views of Scarface mountain across Route 86, as well as Marcy and the high peaks off in the distance. A challenging early season hike! |
