Ascent Trip Report

Based on previous reports, we set our Google Maps directions to the tiny town of Gates, NC. The highest point appeared to be in the field adjacent to the Shell Station and the new storage facility on NC 37 just south of its intersection with Tyler Road. We got readings here of 83'- 85'. Hypothesizing that some of this ground may have been artificially raised upwards to meet the demands of developers, we ventured further. To wit: we traveled south on NC 37 and tagged Area 8 (1147 NC 37 South) on the right side of the road by walking to the SE corner of the lot. Again, readings maxed out at 84-85 feet. We walked to N36.51732 W76.76758 to confirm. No folks were present even though we knocked on the door of the house in front of the lot. Only the wind and the dust coming off the field to greet us. I do not know which is higher, but hit both these points and you should have reached one of at least two HPs in Gates County.

And you can get a moon pie within 30 feet of the HP!
