Ascent Trip ReportMoylussa, County Clare, Ireland (Marilyn). I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries. All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software. Well I just happend to be in the Killaloe area and there was a county high point there so I thought I’d do it. Parking was at a lovely spot on Loch Deirgeirt where there were two sizeable car parks. The start of the walk was up the road opposite the car park following the ‘Crag Wood Walk.’ Keep heading west and up the road for about three kms. You then hang a left on a forestry road and just follow the gpx track and the home made signs conveniently situated at junctions. There are a few junctions so keep an eye out. You walk along the forest for a while before you come to a boardwalk that takes you all the way to the summit cairn about a km away and then stops. Now that might keep you happy but this hill has two tops registered at 532m and peakbagger has the summit as the other one nearly a km away over...yes you guessed it a bog. I went to the other HP just to make sure and came back. Pretty wet and boggy but at least I didn’t sink out of sight! On the way down I decided to go into Killaloe for coffee and food so you can follow my track and hang a right at the first junction or return the same way. The route to Killaloe and along the loch back to my van was mainly road but I didn’t care much. It was a decent day and I’d been fed and watered. All in all an okay walk with nice views over the Loch and surrounding hills. A total of 19.5kms in 4hrs 45mins with 582m of ascent.
