Ascent Trip Report

This was definitely one of the sketchier summits I've tagged in my days. I felt very secure, but the exposure was high and one of my companions was definitely feeling pretty borderline. The hike started straightforwardly, on the road and trails going up the South Fork Sauk, and then climbing, hitting snow around 4200 feet. There was a good bootpack all the way to Foggy Lake and beyond, but as things got steeper going up the south face of Del Campo, it disappeared.

The snow conditions were good for step-kicking, but progress was slow, and things felt very steep and exposed for the final three-hundred feet or so. We were rewarded at the top with amazing views of the North Cascades, frosted with a light layer of snow above tree-line. The return trip was uneventful, though one partner was very slow and got severely stressed out by the exposure.
