Ascent Trip Report

First ascent. I had driven out to the gate off US26 in the evening after work a couple weeks ago to see when the gate would be open. The schedule is posted each year before hunting season. There were just four more dates -- Nov. 17, 18, 22, and 23. Ken Russell also wanted this one, so we arranged to collaborate on it on the 18th. There is no negative signage at the gate we drove to. The roads are very good in the area. There's a short spur leading up toward the old growth just NE of the summit, which made getting into the trees much easier. The brush in the clearcut would otherwise have not been pleasant. Actually, there was unpleasant brush on the summit ridge as well, which is why the track shows that we did a loop on the off-road section of the hike. We encountered one hunter vehicle behind the gate, and speculated that it may have been an employee of the timber company. I completed the 14 Tillamook County P1Ks on this peak -- first completion, although if Dennis Poulin had not gotten sick I'm sure he would have been first, or maybe we would have decided to co-complete. I dedicate the first ascent and the first Tillamook County P1K completion to my late great friend Dennis.
