Ascent Trip ReportWe headed north on highway 154 west of Santa Barbara. We drove to Painted Cave Road. We followed this windy road to Chumash Painted Cave SHP. We went passed the cave and tried to approach the highpoint from a housing development above. We were unable to get close enough so we went back to near the cave. We parked next to a path that headed south toward the cave. We knew the highpoint was above the cave area. We ended up near the cave anyway and then went up the steep use trail to the west edge of the park. We had to do some rock scramble and finally made it to near a backyard of a couple of homes. We climbed up the highest rock and claimed the highpoint. On the way back, we stopped off at the cave and took pictures of the ancient paintings. We then walked the road back to our vehicle.
