Ascent of Cleghorn Mountain on 2018-11-07
|Date:||Wednesday, November 7, 2018|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||5333 ft / 1625 m|
Ascent Trip ReportWe didn't want to drive the extra 15 miles or so of dirt road to do Cleghorn on 2N47, so we drove from 138 toward Cajon Mtn and stopped at Cleghorn Pass. From there, we had an 800' gain climb through thick brush to the road and ultimately the summit. Don't know if it saved us any time, but it certainly made the day's stats more reasonable (more) for the 5 HPS peaks. Recommend taking loppers/clippers for this route to clean it up and make passage easier. Lots of buckthorn! Stats below reflect the entire day (Cleghorn, Cajon Lookout, Cajon, Sugarpine, Bailey Peak, Bailey Benchmark, Monument). It worked out fine to continue south on 2N49 to come out on Palm Ave with an on-ramp to I-215 nearby. This is a far better route than returning back to the 138 the way we came (unless, perhaps, you are intending to go to the Silverwood Lake area or north).
