Ascent Trip Report

Had not planned to hike this peak so I did not have any maps. Parked at lot near the lake, walked down to the lake (loss of 50 feet) and hiked the west side, only to hit a dead end. Backtracked and hiked the east side to the south side, where I crossed the south dam by walking on it directly.

Man back at the fee window said there was a trail to the mountain beyond Rose Lake with great views of Tucson. Well, I found a path that petered out fast. So I stuck to the ridge and just weaved through openings in the moderate to heavy brush, sometimes having to plow through the woody scrub and mountain oak. Got to the top, the views were okay, but nothing special.

Walked back the way I came. Better views of the surrounding mountain ridges, rock formations and cliffs. Not a bad hike but nothing special either. Glad I did it, though.
