|Date:||Saturday, October 27, 2018|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Motorized Transport to Trailhead:||Car|
|Peak:||Dirtyface Mountain-Lookout Site|
| Elevation:||5989 ft / 1825 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI ascended this peak on a day that started out relatively warm and sunny for late October, but turned cloudy later in the day. It hadn't snowed anywhere in this vicinity yet, so the hike to the summit was along a mostly dry trail with a few muddy spots. During the hike, I found a geocache near the falls at N 47° 50.570 W 120° 47.227 and a geocache along the summit ridge east of the summit at N 47° 51.350 W 120° 47.908.
The weather forecast was for heavy rain and snow above 5,000 feet elevation later in the night, so this was a good peak to ascend on this day as this was likely the last day of the year that one could ascend mountains of this elevation in central Washington without encountering snow. With the earlier onset of darkness at this time of year and the approaching inclement weather, there was no time to complete ascents of Dirtyface Peak (6,240 feet) and Dirtyface Benchmark (6,223 feet), so I may complete ascents to these peaks during a future summer when extended duration of daylight hours makes longer hikes and scrambles more feasible.
