Ascent Trip ReportHiked with Lee. Took the trail from Route 86 in Ray Brook. Part of the hike was more or less up a river/stream bed, but the wettest part was farther up the trail where it got very muddy. Lots of scrambling for hand and foot holds over wet rock and mud. The temperature dropped and there was a light layer of snow at the top. I'm guessing it dropped from 50 to 30 degrees. We basically hiked from Fall into Winter and back into Fall. There were multiple false summits before the anticlimactic real summit. After we got down, we drove to the brewery in Tupper Lake. When I got out of the car, I almost couldn't walk. I basically had to hobble around. I think all the walking and slipping in the mud used muscles in my feet and legs that don't usually get used. We both wanted pizza from the pizza truck, but it was Oktoberfest and the pizza truck was closed and they were cooking lobster. The other food truck didn't have any vegetarian food except french fries or a Bavarian pretzel. I got the pretzel. Very unsatisfying. But the Bear Wiz root beer was awesome.
