Ascent Trip Report

Had to turn back about 100 feet from the summit due to extremely sketchy conditions. Trail up to Cascade Pass/Sahale Arm is in great shape, easy peasy. The glacier is in spectacular shape as well - only 2 notable crevasses and both are easily avoidable. The snow was in great shape too - nice frozen neve that was easy to crampon up with french technique.

On the summit block, things got dangerous/sketchy in a hurry. There is a thin layer of loose, unconsolidated "poop" snow (about 6 in deep)covering downward facing 4th class slick, wet rock. The exposure is considerable and a fall would most certainly be fatal. It was impossible to get good purchase or solid footing in these conditions so we had to call it and live to climb another day.

I absolutely loved this area and was blown away by the beauty of it. I will most certainly be back.
