Ascent Trip Report

Started at parking area for Cerro Grande. Trail is easy to follow and never gets very steep. The trail comes close to entering the burn scar from a previous fire but never comes close enough to where I felt unsafe. Good views from the summit into the Valles Grande to the west. On the return trip, you are rewarded with excellent views south, looking into the Dome Wilderness area and upper Frijoles Canyon (Bandelier National Monument). The Sandia Mountains are visible further into the distance on a clear day. Return the way you came to the trailhead. Signage board at trailhead states the hike is 4 miles round trip. My GPS cam in at 4.5 miles total.
