Ascent Trip Report

Brandon Hill, County Killkenny, Ireland (Marilyn).
I’m keeping these summaries short as I’m on a two month tour of Ireland and there’s a lot of hills to hike and therefore lots of entries.
All mapping used are view ranger digital OS 1:50 or 1:25. You will get the best results by uploading my wikiloc gpx giles into this mapping software.
This route starts at the quay side in Graiguenamanagh town. It’s a great place with tarmacadam offsite parking for my van but no facilities bar a tap. Basically walk out of town and follow the gps track. You will end up walking south for around 3ks before you head west through a forest on a classic forestry road. Keep following the gps as it winds through the forest until you walk alongside the forest edge and see a small stone cairn on your left. This marks the trail. You follow it uphill for just under a km. You get to a large metalled cross and just beyond it is the trigpoint. To head back I headed north west and followed a wide trail back down to the forest. After about 2kms you rejoin the original trail in the forest. Just follow this back to town.
A dry 15kms done in 3hrs.
