Ascent Trip ReportDrove in from Hwy 21 to the unsigned turn-off others have used at virtual milepost 68.8. The dirt road is in good shape with only minor water damage until about mile 9 where the tailing piles are. The next half-mile is badly damaged by severe rain events that turned the road surface into more of a dry rocky river channel. This must have happened since Dean Gaudet easily drove his Range Rover up the peak back in April. I managed to get my Jeep Wrangler up this half-mile section but decided I had had enough and parked it at a turnout in the first hairpin turn. I walked up the dirt road from here. The road condition actually improved with only short sections of water damage. Perhaps the road will be repaired eventually since there is a large communication facility on the summit that workers need to drive to.
