Ascent Trip Reportrecent rain had made some of the roads a bit muddy. the drive in from NV-361 requires hi-clearance, and i'd recommend 4x4. it's not a bad road, but there's lots of water damage. when i reached petrified wash i decided it wasn't worth the risk trying to go further in the moist wash. it was a good enough place to start from, and so i did.
my ascent is the eastern leg of the loop, and it was generally good. there was a short easy downclimb on some rocks on the ridge i used. i lost a bit of extra elevation while following a horse track before realising i had to start cross country for the main climb. overall my ascent was relatively brush-free and easy going.
for descent i decided to make a loop of it and head southwest, and then south down a ridge. that ridge ended up with a bit more brush and rocks than i was enjoying, and i went off the steep side to attain the more gentle tree-covered slope below. that worked out well enough, and it was easy to dodge the trees from there on. lower down the creekbed was clear and wide enough to be a great trail, and i stuck with it until a dry fall near where i had entered the creek earlier in the day. easy enough to follow another horse trail back to the truck from there. i'm not sure i'd ascend my descent track, mostly because of the steep section where i dropped off the ridge.
