Ascent Trip ReportJasper and Carol hiked up the very steep Capsridge trail to Mt Jefferson, passing a big rock outcropping with volcanic potholes, scrambling up the rock cliffs, and getting to the summit in late afternoon- amazing views in all directions, clear weather and not too cold or windy. We decided to hike over to Mount Clay as well, and then back by the light of sunset to the Cornice trail. By the time we reached the Capsridge trail down it was getting quite dark and we ended up hiking out in the dark, searching for each cairn with Jasper's powerful flashlight, getting off the trail a few times and back-tracking. We sat on the potholes rock with the stars and milkyway spread out above us, and silent other than the sound of a distant stream. We made it back to the car by about 9pm.
