Ascent Trip Reportthe road in to this trailhead is rough, rocky, and i recommend hi-clearance and all-terrain tires. i think we took about an hour each way on the road... overall my goal with coming in from this direction was to fit this hike into a day in which i left the bay area at a lazy time, stopping numerous times along the way. it more or less worked.
the creek was at a reasonable flow rate for crossing, but apparently it can be pretty high, and i suppose we could have been trapped on the other side had pg&e changed the flow rate. it would seem we totally lucked out here, there are flow graphs available, and it would seem that there was only 9 cfs (or the graphs are broken as i look at this), whereas a month earlier there was 280 cfs. after watching a number of fordyce creek crossing videos (4x4s) i'm pretty sure i would have turned back at the higher flow rates.
the worst brush was between the creek and the start of the climb to the ridge... there's probably a good way through here, but we didn't luck out and find it.
it's hard to say whether our route up or down were better: both had scrambling (class 2), some friction slabs, and occasional brush. on the descent route we were in a gully (the northern leg of our track) with several rocks that i slid down, i'm not sure i would have found a way to climb some of these.
up on the ridge we used the use trail which has occasional cairns, and is generally easy to follow.
we found no register.
