Ascent Trip Report

I'd say that the hardest part of this one is getting up the road. The minimum-maintenance access road through the forest, signed as Valentine Hill Road and Van Donsel Road, is in bad shape, but can be taken in a small car if you are careful and slow. I would NOT recommend taking a car up here if it is wet. I parked at the intersection of Valentine Hill and Baldwin Roads and hiked roughly 1/4 mile SE to a power line corridor containing a dirt access road. Hiking N along this road, there is a gentle ascent to the Finger Lakes Trail maybe 3/8 mile up. Continue straight on the Finger Lakes trail and, when the wide road begins to descend, the FLT breaks off to the left. A short climb further and the summit is along the left side of the trail, marked by a BM and witness post. Retraced my steps back to the car.

If you're not comfortable taking a car up here, you can park at the Tone Road trailhead just off of NY Route 392 and hike up the Finger Lakes Trail (roughly 850 feet vertical ascent) or park at the snowplow turnarounds on Van Donsel/Valentine Hill Road and hike along the road to the power line corridor. If driving, I'd suggest entering to/from the north along Van Donsel Road, as this has the easiest grades.
