Ascent Trip ReportThis one was a much more adventurous drive than the hike. We turned off highway 6 near Colton onto highway 96 and drove a few miles past Scofield Lake and turned right on 264. After a few miles we turned on Skyline Drive. It was a logging road with a gate, but luckily the gate was open. Despite it being October, there were already snow patches up here at high altitude. While we were going up the one and a half lane road, we came across several logging trucks. Watch out for them if you are driving around blind corners! Also be wary with a rental car. We had a Toyota Rav4 with highway tires, and it worked alright, but was a bit slippery on the dirt. Finally we made it to the obvious peak on the east side of the road. We turned up towards it, but the road was gravelly and it was only a few hundred feet to the summit, so we got out and walked. Wonderful views as always!
