Ascent Trip ReportDavid picked me up from the airport in Phoenix and we drove 2.5 hours north to the northern trailhead of Bill Williams at a ranger station just off of I-40. The trail is cleared and well-signed all the way up to the access road, which it reaches at about 9000 feet after 3 miles. The official trail crosses the road and meets it again a little higher up, cutting off a switchback. We walked the rest of the way on the road. There’s a lookout whose stairs you can climb up to the locked cab. Lots of antennas around. There were maybe 5 other groups on the trail, of which we were the last. We got back to the car just after sunset.
There is also a trail to the top from the east that mostly follows the access road. The upper part of the road that we saw is in great shape and appears to be drivable by any vehicle.
