Ascent Trip Report

This peak has been de-listed from the 100 Peaks List, but it was on there, so I decided to climb it anyway. Trailhead was at Green Valley Campground in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Parking lot was under construction and the restrooms were closed. Porta-potties and a wash station were in place. Parking lot is a favorite for Woodpeckers, Scrub Jays, and Stellars Jays. It was a bright and sunny day and I got a late start. Conditions were hot and dry. Trail leads off to the right, not to be confused with the Arroyo Seco trail the left. A little ways up the trail was a fallen tree, which people had tromped a way around. Fairly standard and well-marked trail until you get the the ridge. A trail to the Monument leads off to the right. After a shot while, you will come to a rocky face on the ridge with very little scrub. This is where you want to begin your ascent. A large oak tree pretty much marks the peak. There is no benchmark, register, or cairn, so I wandered around, clambering up anything that might resemble a peak. On a later ascent I found a tin can that said something like "San Diego Adventure Club." View from this point includes Stonewall Peak, Japacha, and Cuyamaca. Trip down was uneventful. It was getting late in the day and I missed the turnoff to the Monument. Returned to the parking lot without incident.
