Ascent Trip ReportThe Fluvanna County highpoints are two small regions in the community of Zion Crossroads, about four miles west of the Louisa County highpoint. The two areas are near the intersection of highways US-250 and US-15, which comprise the "crossroads". In 2006, the area was rural, but given its location near Interstate-64, it appeared major development would be taking place here soon.
For the first area, I parked along US-15 across from the highpoint. I crossed the road and walked toward a neat old bungalow home. The highpoint is right here, said the map. A small parking lot beside this old home seemed like a good candidate. I could sense a small rise. Happy, I walked back to the car.
The other area is a tiny region on westbound US-250, south of the road and about 300 feet west of the junction. We parked in a mini-mart lot, and I got a coke and bag of chips for the journey. I walked up the road, found the area overgrown in weeds and crud, and walked about 15 feet into it. That was that, and we were on our way. Total time here, about 20 minutes.
