Ascent Trip Report

Take Highway 17 north of New Bern to the junction at Chandler Road. Turn right. The HP at the tree root across from the abandoned trailer reported by Tom Layton was easy to find, but upon my return to the car I was met by local folks who guided me to a point just north and across the RR track that they unanimously claimed was the true high point at 66 feet above sea level. They said a man from the the State Government had so stated and I was not going to disagree.

When I checked my GPS, they were probably right. Same or higher reading here. One of the kids who accompanied his Dad in his truck did a happy dance on the spot. I have enough now to declare this spot (next to rusty RR parts) as the official contender for the County HP. Blessed be the people who know there territory. Good enough for me.
