Ascent Trip Report

I set up Diamond Peak hike (a day hike). My original plan is to start from Rockpile Trail TH -> Summit -> Diamond Peak South Trail TH. I drove my car with Bhano, Jackie to the Spring Campsite which is located at South side of Crescent Lake on Sat evening. Terry drove his car by alone to meet with us in the evening. On Sunday, Terry and I drove our own cars (His car is 4WD Jeep, my car is AWD CR-V). After I started to drive off-road for 20mins or so, I was getting question that "Can I really come back here for return???" I was getting nervous about so rough road and decided to park my car and get into Terry's car. Since we're 4 of us, 1 car is enough. So I dropped off idea to get to Rockpile Trailhead and we just decided to go to Diamond Peak South TH.
What an adventure from the morning.

Due to very rough off-road, we could only start hiking at 7:50am.(original plan was to start 7:00am.)
Diamond Peak South Trail is very easy and Rockpile Trail up to Marie Lake. We only took 1.5 hours to get there.

Then, we did some bushwhacking to aim to reach to the South ridge of Diamond Peak. There was a miscommunication with Bhano where I was aiming to, he was fast and was trying to reach to PCT, which is not what I wanted to go.
So we did some wondering around the fields, finally reached to the base of Diamond peak and decided to eat snack.
That was 10:30am-ish.
After took a break, we put sunscreen on faces/hands, then, start ascent. Rock-piled area, we spent more time than we thought, But finally we get on ridge to just go higher and higher.
But this is tiring ascent, after for a while, we reached to the false summit. Then, we first time saw the real summit. Still looked to us a way to go, even thought it's only 0.4-0.5 miles.
Anyhow, we reached to the summit before 1pm, I believe.

On return trip, we decided to take PCT. That is a lot of detour, but, we don't have to route-finding anymore.
I think we came back to Diamond Peak South TH around 5pm or so. It was a fun hike with like-minded people.

We were getting to reach to the false summit now at Diamond Peak. We won't see the real summit until you get to the false one. :-) (2018-09-09). Photo by Tomoko Nakajima.
