Ascent Trip ReportSpent the night before and the night after car camping at Fieldhead Campsite. Walked directly from here.
Started by heading north out of Edale. Went along the well trafficked route to the top, then continued along a still decently trafficked route until a stream where I turned right along a more deserted path.
Using the Ordinance Survey maps found what was marked as a faint trail to take across the plateau to the "actual" summit. Wasn't much of a trail at all. Found only bits and pieces at a time and bushwhacked most of the way. Look for some cairns set up at irregular intervals.
Got to the exact place the Ordnance Survey maps listed as 636 meters, marked only by a what looked like a bamboo shoot (Photosphere: https://goo.gl/maps/xmLnEodM4fr). No idea if this is the actual highest point, I wouldn't believe anyone who said for sure they knew where it was.
Navigation onward to Kinder Low was easier as the trig point was visible from here. Much more interesting of a place to visit. Neat rock formations. Is that Manchester visible in the distance? Really neat rocks on the way down as well, especially Edale rocks. Went back along the Pennine Way. Thought the challenges of the route were basically over after Jacob's Ladder but it turned out there were still lots of small ups and downs the rest of the way into Edale. |
