Ascent of McClure Rock on 2018-09-06Date: | Thursday, September 6, 2018 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | McClure Rock | Location: | USA-Washington | Elevation: | 7385 ft / 2250 m |
Ascent Trip ReportWeather was too good to stay inside today. Started hiking at Paradise at 6:18, got to Pebble Creek about an hour later. Not all that much snow left, but crampons were nice this early. Made it to Anvil Rock at 9:45, and then went to Camp Muir. Scrambled to the top of Muir Peak around 11, and on the way down I hit the Sugarloaf and McClure Rock. Was down at the car again at 1:45 PM. Great day!
Anvil Rock was easy to get to from the Muir Snowfield at about 9400 feet. The base of it is very sandy and loose, though, but once you're through that, it's easy. Muir Peak is also an easy scramble, the route starts near the east end of Camp Muir. It first heads north, but then winds back to the south, and then back to the north. |
