Ascent Trip Report

Grundy county has two contours above 2,380 feet; one at the tri-county junction with Marion and Sequatchie and the other is by the road.
The most direct (less mountainous) way to these high points is to take exit 155 off of I-24 and head north on US-72/TN-28 12 miles toward Whitwell (locally pronounced Whu-wool). Bear left onto TN-108 just south of town and go about 10.5 miles.
Lockhart Tower BM
This HP is located near the intersection of TN-108 and Palmer Fire Tower Rd. The BM is about 20 yards west of the highway on a small concrete stump. Unfortunately, the fire tower is no longer standing so there is not much of a view from here

Laager Youth Camp – tri county junction
The second area is the tri-county junction of Grundy, Marion and Sequatchie counties on the property of Laager Youth Camp (which is looking a little run down). It is just south of the Lockhart BM and one can see the county line signs for Grundy and Marion counties at the entrance. I visited in November so there were no campers around but I parked at the gate and wandered into the camp. There is a small rise by a stand of trees behind the bath/shower house.
This is also a highpoint for Marion and Sequatchie counties.

Lockhart Tower 2382 ft 35.32059 -85.56211
