Ascent Trip Report

we continued on 38N18 past the intersection with 38N18A where others have generally begun the hike. we continued down to where 38N18 crosses skunk cabbage creek, where we turned left and headed down the canyon toward lost lake. we parked somewhere around 7800', where the (unmapped) road became impassible.

all i can say is: the road is pretty sucky, and while we definitely shortened the hike, it probably isn't worth it. for descent we goofed around following the road which goes south along the ridge, past "red rock mountain" (taylor benchmark) ... we had hoped we could find a better route to share with others. but the road eventually became unclear, and we were back to wandering cow paths through the forest to return to the vehicles.

if you're still interested in exploring the roads further i recommend going straight when you get to skunk cabbage creek, and see where that goes. (i'm deliberately not attaching the track because i don't want folks to think this was a better route... but i can provide the track if you're curious.)
