Ascent Trip Report

Travel south on US 395 from Riley or north on US 395 from Valley Falls.
At virtual MP 48.6 turn east onto signed Bacon Camp Road.
Zero your odometer.

0.1 Pass a ranch (signed 7B) on your left.
2.2 Curve Right and begin to climb. Continue Straight on signed road 6185 (road 6150 leads left here along the powerline).
5.4 Continue Straight (a primitive road leads right)
5.9 Continue Straight (a possible alternative route on a less-used road leads right)
6.0 Continue Straight
7.2 Turn Right at an intersection onto a more primitive road that drops towards a water hole. The left road is labeled 6130.
7.3 Pass Saunders Waterhole (unsigned). The road becomes rockier.
9.7 Continue Straight. The possible alternative route joins from the right.
10.2 Pass through a gate.
10.5 Bear Left at a Y junction. Higher clearance is helpful beyond here in spots.
11.6 Arrive at fenced Horseshoe Spring.

The road beyond Horseshoe Spring is signed closed to vehicles, ATVs, and motorcycles so I parked here.

I hiked the road to the summit from Horseshoe Spring. I found the road clear and driveable.
