Ascent Trip Report3:45 start, finished at 3:30. Completed solo. Only stop for more than 30 seconds was on the summit for lunch. Felt like I had plenty of energy left until the last mile. Drove back to GMF afterwards despite HORRIBLE traffic. Spent the night at the aspen leaf motel in Lyons, which was a pretty nice place.
Saw my first elk! Huge females. My phone had JUST run out of juice and didn't want to stop to pull out my reserve back. I saw these bros with no shirts taking pictures and i was laughing to myself, then 30 seconds later i heard something i saw them to my left. Almost walked right by them.
Got off route on the descent and ended up too high. Don't know how, i think i was trying to take a shortcut. I asked some dude where the route was and he point out the bullseye in front of him, below me, and comments how well the trail was marked. At the keyhole I must have stumbled near him because he gave me the "you alright" dick question. He had gone up the Loft and down the Keyhole. Him and his buddies lost me in the boulderfield, but I caught back up with them in the forest. They wouldn't let me pass like a bunch of cocks. It was my first speed descent, probably cause I was obsessing about keeping up with these dudes. They said they started 15 minutes after me.
Definitely my favorite mountain so far. RMNP is gorgeous and the climb was fun. Seeing the sun rise in the mountains for the first time was unbelievable. The amount of people was def a downside.
