Ascent Trip ReportThis hike kicked my butt. I think it was all the stairs that have been built into the trail. While they were much appreciated, my knees took a beating.
Did this hike before we drove up to Ausable Chasm. As previously stated there are a lot of stone steps built into this trail. There are brochures at the sign in box that have numbers corresponding to the trail. When you reach these numbers, there is something cool to see that the brochure gives details about. At one point you will pass a VERY large rock wall that has a cool ledge. I used this as a photo op.
About a quarter mile from the summit you'll pass a lean-to and the ruins of the old rangers cabin.
The summit has very good views to the south. The tower itself offers 360 degree views with plaques telling you which mountains you're looking at.
There was a summit steward on the mountain this day and he was very helpful in answering our questions.
