Ascent Trip Report

This was a private hike with George Christiansen of 4 Peakbagger peaks northeast of Green Valley Lake. We went up 330 to 18 to the turn off for Green Valley. We went through Green Valley all the way to the campground east of Green Valley. We missed the turn off for 2N13 which is actually before the campground. It’s hard to spot. We drove to a point southeast of West Point and turned into a parking spot. There was a sign that explained how the peak got it’s name. In 1958 Don West and another forest service person went up to the summit to spot a fire. Unfortunately, Don was struck by lightning and died. It was a short pleasant hike to the summit. There was no register or BM on the summit.
Next was Hanna Rocks. At one time Hanna was being considered for the HPS list, but it never made it. We continued on 2N13 to a junction with 2N68, turned left and drove a short distance and parked. This was my favorite hike of the day. It involved a lot of boulder climbing to reach the summit. There were several false summits before reaching the actual summit. We did find an empty register can. We added a notepad and placed it just below the summit rock, marking it with a couple of ducks. It was too bad it was not added to the HPS list. It was a fun and challenging hike.
Next was Redonda Ridge. We continued on 2N13 to Coxey Truck Road, turned left and followed it to the campground at Big Pine Flat. We parked at the fire station and started up a road that went behind the station. When the road started to circle back, we found a use trail that in a short distance dropped down to a motorcycle trail that led up to Redonda. If you continued on this trail for about two miles, it would go over Hawes. We followed the trail to the summit. There was no register or BM on the summit.
Next was 6520. From Big Pine we went down Crab Flat Road about 2 miles to a point just before the peak. It was a short walk to the summit. There was no register or BM on the summit. We continued on Crab Flat road to Green Valley. 2N13 was in rough condition and a high clearance vehicle with a good engine was needed.
