Ascent Trip Report2018/08/06 with David Salinger
TRIP 2018/08/05: Left Trinity at 10AM, hiked to High Pass via Buck Creek Pass, climbed Berge, camped at High Pass. Hot and buggy on trail. Smoke from area fires. Beautiful trail and camp. 2018/08/06 Left camp ~8AM and climbed Napeequa. Back to camp ~12noon, taking our time on summit for fantastic views of Dakobed Traverse and Glacier Peak, and beautiful alpine basin. At camp, thought about staying. Too nice a camp to leave so soon. But wanting exercise, we left camp after 1:30 and hiked to Cloudy Pass. Hot and buggy the entire way. Camped at Cloudy Pass. Mosquitoes were intense. Had to eat in mesh tent!! 2018/08/07: From Cloudy Pass climbed North Star Mtn, then returned to camp at Cloudy Pass. Day was scorching hot. Bugs were ravenous and relentless. Hiked to Spider Gap and planned to hike out to car at Trinity, but Spider Gap was so nice, at 7100', and day was so hot, bugs were terrible at lower elevations, and the views were amazing. We decided to stay an extra night and share our meager rations. We camped on NW side of Spider Gap in a bivy spot big enough for a small 2-person tent, with views of Lyman Lakes, Dome/Sinister, Sitting Bull and Plummer. Fabulous. Hiked out to Trinity next day. Very hot (over 100 degrees at Lake Wenatchee). Swam in lake to cool off. Hundreds of people on the beach, and dogs, and every kind of flotation device imaginable. Total mayhem, summer fun. Note: Many hikers between Cloudy Pass and Phelps Creek TH. PCTers coming through as well. Popular area.
