Ascent Trip Report

Easy scramble. Class 2 except for about 30-40 feet of class 3 near the top. Forgot to bring Summitpost page or any beta but tracks on the Peakbagger app and cairns get you a long way :) I made the mistake of not traversing quite far enough around the summit block on the ascent, and went up 15 ft of class 4 or so, but it worked out fine. Easily found the correct way on the descent. Crux was getting down from the saddle 200 ft or so to the top of the snow -- loose dirt garbage.

I used crampons on the way up, but it was really unnecessary. Didn't bother with them on the way down. With present conditions there was only about a quarter mile of walking on snow necessary. Short glissade on the way out.

A few minutes below the summit, I met a climber who had just soloed the NE Ridge. He did not recommend this and said if he did it again he would go with a rope and partner due to loose spots and lots of exposure. Good to know.

Talus between Heather Pass and Lewis Lake is annoying, ended up above the "trail" a couple times, but I still prefer bare ground over the snow with avalanche danger that I had last time.

I almost didn't go at all because of the forecast of afternoon thunderstorms. Fortunately, the first thunder and rain was just as I was arriving back at my car. It was smoky from the Cutthroat Fire, though.

TH ~8:30
Summit ~12:15 - ~12:40
TH ~16:40

That trail from Heather Pass to the TH sure is nice.
