Ascent Trip Report06:45 - I met a good friend "DirtyDogRunner" I hadn't seen in 10+ years at the trailhead. She had done Handyman peak the day/evening before and camped at the trailhead. She is an amazing athlete and ready to go on ~4 hrs sleep.
07:00 - We depart the trailhead/parking lot.
07:30 - We arrive at the first "saddle". We will turn off at this point on the descent to essentially bushwhack over the small peak and down to the parking lot on our return.
08:00 - We reach the tree line where there are 2 tents pitched. We continue up the ridgeline and trail which is easy to follow, but always going up. We pass some groups of people that departed the parking lot 1hr prior to us. We catch another large group of young school kids and a guide (this is an advanced hike for all of them).
09:15 - We arrive at the snowfield/chicken out ridge. There is no rope in place. We cross very carefully and continue on the trail slightly down from the ridgeline.
09:25 - We are in the saddle before the final climb. All of a sudden a fighter jet coasts over the ridge just above us and drops down into the valley below us to the northeast. Very cool.. We scramble up the ridgeline instead of using the trail below the ridgeline (a little more exciting with much better views).
10:15 - SUMMIT. A few quick pics, enjoy the view, and head down. This time we head down the regular "trail" instead of the ridge.
10:40 - Arrive at the snowfield/ridge (chicken out ridge). The school group guide has installed a rope which and all the kids are just passed the snow. We use the rope on the return. TX!
11:34 - We reach tree line and the 2 two tents. The pace has been a mixture of trouting and quick walking.
11:50 - We arrive at the low saddle and ver off to the right to the small peak. I thought it was a peakbagger peak - but sadly it isn't. We continue over the peak and decide to descend directly toward the parking lot as the brush is pretty open and it's easy to see the route.
12:14 - We rejoin the regular trail
12:16 - Back in the parking lot. DONE!
