Ascent Trip Report

I heard about Castle Rock as people were asking about hikes near Blue Mountain Fire Tower. When you're near the Adirondack Experience (museum) and Fire Tower trailhead, Maple Lodge Road is close. Turn down there and you'll find the trailhead. There is a bit of gravel road to walk, then you enter the woods. There's junction at a bridge where you can take a loop (which I didn't, but was told after that if you do, you'll see giant boulders under the summit ledge.) When you get about .10 mi. from the summit, there is an unmarked left turn with a clear path. There was a small log across it when I was there (not sure if that is a "sign" or not). You will see a boulder with "top" spray painted in yellow, then trail markers and yellow spray paint dots continue and a "summit" sign close by. The trail begins a steep climb with lots of boulders, rocks and roots to help you make your way up to a rock ledge with absolutely gorgeous views of Blue Mountain Lake.
