Ascent Trip ReportDurham County HP
Take US 501 north from Durham and then at the town of Rougemont, turn right on Red Mountain Road. Turn left on Quarterhorse Run and drive up hill to the top of the ridge. Park off the road here and clamber through the woods eastward to a prominently marked pole above the BM encased in concrete. Would be nice to think the lot was off limits for development due to this marker :).
This was the second of 5 central North Carolina HPs I bagged in the next 18 hours on a trip to Halifax for a court hearing the next day (not mine!). This was the coldest weather these areas had seen in years.
For kicks I walked on to Red Mountain, which lies in Person County (see separate entry). |
