Ascent Trip ReportClose to a three-hour drive each way to Mt. Equinox from my home in CT. Left at 4:45 AM. Started hike at 8:50 AM. Trail was a solid and unrelenting up most of the way, and we took our time. It got cooler the higher we went and was sunny and pleasant on the summit when we arrived close to noon. Some bugs, but not too bad. Trail was virtually bone dry. Views were very good, but obscured by some distant haze. Could see Mt. Greylock in Massachusetts, as well as Killington and Stratton in Vermont, and glimpses of the White Mountains in New Hampshire and the Adirondacks in New York. Checked out the rebuilt (ca. 2011) Summit Center. Departed after about an hour and made it down in about 2.5 hours. Got back home at 6:40 PM. |
