Ascent Trip ReportI followed Ben's TR, with a few modifications. This route is virtually bushwhack-free.
Instead of parking at the base of the long 4WD driveway leading to the house, I decided to chance it. Drove maybe halfway up this rough, steep, rocky road before reaching a good pullout on the R with a gated woods road on the L, at about 2080'. I parked here, and am glad I did--I don't think a passenger car could've gone further. I stopped by the house to seek permission, and met the same guy Ben had--friendly guy, and concerned about my hiking out there alone without water. He also alerted me a black bear and mountain lion lived on the mountain.
The next part of the route will make sense with a perusal of satellite imagery. I continued on the road to a point where the main track stayed R, and a split went L. I took the L split, then stayed R at another fork. This old ATV trail continued to the ridge (a large downed tree blocks the path just before), where a right turn would lead to posted land. I turned left, following an overgrown ATV track along the ridge to the summit. High ground was at three trees marked with orange tape. No views on this summer day.
My return trip was uneventful except for discovering an SUV parked behind my car. Nobody was inside and nobody seemed to be around outside. I left, glad to have this little hole in my county highpoint map filled.
