Ascent Trip Report

Lots of trips reports for Burley Hill, but its my home county, so here's another one...

I used Jason Rossman's trip report as a basis for my trip, and parked at the intersection of Burley Hill Rd and New City Rd. There is a nice wide spot there to park the car where it is out of the way of all traffic.

The entrance to the snowmobile track can get lost in the foliage from more than 20 feet away, but it is there. There is some wooden decking right at the beginning to get over a couple of swampy spots. About 1/3 mile in there is a logging road that heads up the hill ending at a hay field... or at least I hope that it is a hay field because the number of rocks would make it near impossible to plow. I followed along the treeline until the gap in the trees separating the upper and lower fields. There are red diamond blazes marking the gap.

The trail that leads to the summit is located at the opposite corner of the field, pretty much in the exact corner. There is another trail that leads off of the field about 2/3 up the treeline, that leads back down hill toward the south. Follow this trail; it will loop south of the summit and then come back at it. Much easier than trying to bushwack through from the point where it is west of the summit.

The highest point appears to be on rocky outcropping that is where the "dot" on the map was.

Had a little trouble finding the trail on the way back down, but eventually found it before reaching the fields. After that, I reversed my track back to the car.

There are pleasant views on the hike up as you cross the upper field, but the summit itself doesn't have any views. I would recommend wearing long pants more for the ticks than the bushes, but there are a lot of those as well.
